Today I received a letter from one of my website visitors. His Russian girlfriend asked him to help her (financially) to obtain a visa to visit him in America. This man wrote to me that she (he met her online through some free dating site) had found a local travel agency who could help her fast with a visa, but for this 'fast process' she needed more money then she already gave this agency from all her savings and she asked her American friend to help her. Thank god this man felt a little bit uncomfortable about this and he decided to verify if this could be true. For that reason he found my web site and asked my advise and opinion.
Russian girls or women (most of them are young, in the twenties) can be very convincing that they 'honestly' can get a visa to visit you, with the help of a local agency they personal know. She tries to explain you that they can arrange such magic visas using 'special' ways. But, of course, these visas costs more than the formal visas you apply at the US Embassy.
Well, to unravel this big secret about magic visas, they just don't exists! No matter these young, Russian girls are telling you, it is simply not possible to get an US visa just to visit you in your country.
The main (US) visa types you have are: tourist, business, student, working, K3-spouse and K1-Fiancee visas. Some of these Russian beauties are trying to convince you that they can get a student visa. But also this type of visa is difficult to get and you need to accomplish a specific procedure to apply for such a visa. Beside that, you need the support of an US sponsor or official reference. Same counts for business and working visas. To receive a tourist visa is only available for a specific group of people, but certainly not for a single, young, beautiful Russian woman who wants to visit her friend in the US.

Q: How do I qualify for a U.S. non-immigrant visa?
A: A qualified applicant for a U.S. non-immigrant visa is able to demonstrate binding social, familial, and/or economic ties to Russia which, in the opinion of the consular officer, constitute a compelling need to return to Russia after a temporary visit to the United States. Section 214(b) of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act requires a consular officer to presume that a visa applicant intends to immigrate to the United States until the applicant provides sufficient evidence to the contrary. For more information, please see the section on supporting documents that can accompany a visa application.
Short but to the point, the Consular officer presumes your Russian girlfriend wants to immigrate to the US, in this case she has to proof that she will return to Russia after her visit. So, your single, young beautiful looking Russian girlfriend with just a regular job (or even not having a job), who wants to visit you (as a possible future bride) in the US will have a difficult time at the US Embassy to convince the Consular officer that she indeed will come back. I can already give you the results of that interview, can you?
But now you probably will ask, what is the proper way if you indeed have a serious relationship with a Russian woman and you both have decided to stay with each other with the intention to marry?
In this case she has to apply for a so-called K1-Fiancee visa, which is an immigrant visa. Just type in any search engine the keywords "K1 Fiancée visa" and you will find a lot of information, I suggest you start at the website of the US Embassy in Moscow (see above). The most important work both have to do, before applying a K1-fiancee visa, is that from day one both have to keep all evidence that you have a serious relationship, like email or letter correspondence, photos where both of you are exposed, phone-bills (to Russia and vice versa), airline tickets, accommodation bills, your visa and other documents which proofs that you have been in Russia to meet her, etc. Just keep any ticket, any bill, any paper, any document that will show you both have met each other or that you have visited Russia (or Ukraine or other East European country). Especially the proof (photos, documents with two names) that you were 'together' is essential to convince the Consular officer that the relationship is 'real' and not for the reason to create a sham marriage (for green card purposes).
The official requirements and documents both need are available at many K1-fiancee visa service and support websites, including the website of the US Embassy in Moscow.
Remember that if she will be approved for a K1-fiancee visa, that you have to marry each other within 90 days, if not, she has to go back to her country, she definitely can't stay after these 90 days if you both have decided not to marry each other.
So, why are these easy-to-catch Russian girls convincing you that they have possibilities (they even confess you sometimes with a wink that their methods are not the formal way) to get a visa to visit you?
In one word? 'money'! These girls are pretty good trained to wrap you up with their magic. They write you very nice (but impersonal) letters with sweet words, they send you photos of a real beautiful young Russian girl, even when she is 23 and you are 42, no problem, they prefer to have a man with 'experience' at least that's what they tell you. They explain you how different American men are with Russian men, they explain you that 'looks' is not important at all, they already fall in love with you after 5 or 6 letters (emails) and you know what? Many men do believe them! Therefore it is not difficult for these girls that they can't wait to meet you and want to visit you (in your country of course), but needs a little help form you to get that magic visa. And of course you will help her, the sooner she can come the better and you already are fantasizing what your friends will say when they will meet your Russian knock-out, isn't it?

So my dear reader, don't believe in such fairy tails because magic visas are not existing. And don't even think to engage yourself to illegal methods to apply for a visa, it will not work and if they find out, you will be banned for life by the US authorities concerning visas and immigration.
The right way is to suggest her to meet her in her country. Never send any money or do not send expensive gifts. Some flowers is ok, but that's it, do not exaggerate. Keep you financial arrangements in own control and use only save paying methods. If you need to pay a hotel or apartment in Moscow (or wherever), do the payment by yourself, never send money and let her do it!

Russian brides are often seen as an option for those men who have failed to find a relationship in a more traditional way. However, the majority of people do not understand why an American man, for example, would be willing to find a Russian woman that is thousands of miles away as opposed to the women in our culture. This is somewhat understandable, but when simply understanding what a Russian bride has to offer us men; who can help but to look overseas? Let's discuss this further.
Russian brides are known not only to be beautiful, they are also staunchly loyal to their husbands. Russian brides want to be desired and attempt to become the kind of women whom men constantly attempt to win. There are a number of reasons, but the main desire for a Russian woman is simply to be loved by a man that treats her with respect. Yes, this seems to be a little simplistic, but imagine being raised in an environment where there are so many men that are extremely chauvinistic, and are constantly aware that there is a little "friend" named "Vodka" that is nipping at their heels. This is usually the environment that a Russian woman is raised in, and to be respected, as stated above will pay great dividends. Is this to say that we should give up on romancing our American women? Of course not. A woman in our mothers' generation did not hesitate in taking care of their men as this was both an honor and an accepted form of living. They did not have to apologize for such behavior. It was an accepted norm. And what do psychologists observe today? There observe men growing and wanting a woman like their mothers. Like it or not; agree with it or not does not erase this fact.
A Russian bride? Why not. We men want to feel a little bit like the "kings' of old, and if we cannot find it where we live, then why not look for it beyond our own borders.

Online Dating Scams - Red Flags and Signs

Having someone you trust (an interpreter you know, a reputable agency representative, etc) meet your lady in person is the best option to knowing how genuine and real she is. But even when that is not an option, there are some other red flags to watch for and make sure you are not being fooled.
It is true that many Russian brides do not give much consideration to the age difference. However, we suggest that you analyze all pros and cons, as well as your communication when your birth dates are too far apart.
It seems that most men get excited at the prospect of having a wife, much younger than them. Of course, having an 18 year old beauty with brains as your partner when you are over 45 can boost any ego. But no matter how robust or energetic you are, we suggest that you take a step back, quiet your racing heart, and think of what your relationship will be like 5 or 10 years down the road. You will most likely be more interested in having more family time and a more relaxed lifestyle, while your wife (by now at her prime age) will still want to go out, visit crowded places, and be on the go most of the time. Such a difference is likely to put a strain on any relationship, no matter how emotional and connected the partners are.
This doesn't mean that you should give up the idea of having a young beautiful wife all together, of course. But we suggest that you raise your age limit by a few years to ensure that a woman you choose to build a relationship with not only has life experience, but also is mature enough to understand all implications of a long-distance, age-difference relationship with a person from overseas.
Another important thing to consider is the start and style of your relationship. Once I got a call from a good friend of mine, an American, saying he received a message from a gorgeous 18 year old girl saying she is dying to get to know him. As dear friend as he is, I would certainly admit that he is no Brad Pitt - quite an ordinary guy in appearance, in his early 50s, a bit on the heavy side - you get the picture. Lucky for him, being a pragmatic person and knowing all his best and worst features, he didn't rush to write her back with I-love-you's. As a curious experiment, he decided to write to her for some time and see the outcome - after the third letter he became the man of her life, after the seventh he was asked for money, and after he stopped writing to her, he received an exact copy of her first letter… but under a different name!
All this said, it doesn't mean you should get suspicious when your Russian bride is open about expressing her emotions. But we do suggest exercising some common sense and not basing any decisions on your emotional attachment alone.
Another sure way for scammers to easily fool you for a long time is to avoid communication THROUGH DIFFERENT MEDIA. It is easy to conceal information through an email address, which can not be tracked or checked.
Long-distance calls are expensive, but are a good measure to keep in touch from time to time. It is a great sign of a woman's genuine intentions if she shares her home as well as cell phone number with you - a good proof that she is not hiding who she really is. More often than not, scammers will give a cell phone number only, as it is something that is hard to track and easy to replace. We also recommend that you pay attention to her snail mail address - most scammers will use P.O. box addresses, instead of actual street/house information.
Naturally, common sense says that you can not expect a lady to share all of her contact information with someone she does not know. Even with most serious intentions, it might take time for her to be certain of your interest and intentions as well before she gives you her full contact information. But if your lady has to make frequent excuses about her phone being switched off or stolen, her not being home, etc. we would caution you to proceed with your communication carefully.
Another simple way to check how real your lady is could be by simply asking her to send you some personal photos. The pictures of beautiful women commonly used by scammers are easily downloaded from the Internet, but will most likely have little variety in setting, style, etc. They will normally look like studio photos (most scammers are "models in the past"), and will not have anyone except "the lady" in them. Having your lady refuse (or make excuses) to send you photographs with family and friends is a great guarantee that she is a scammer. Most photo studios and internet cafes allow to scan and mail information (or will do it for inexperienced users) with ease.
But even if you discard every piece of advice mentioned above, there is still one main rule to remember - NEVER SEND ANY MONEY TO SOMEONE YOU HAVE NOT MET IN PERSON. Just because you are using a trusted service, it doesn't mean that you can be sure the real person gets the money. For example, many Western Union agents are bribed and share the profits of transfers, received by scammers: a person with a completely different name can receive the money, and the Western Union agent will simply overlook the incoherency in the documents for a commission.
We strongly encourage you to conduct your own investigation and research when you have any doubts about the person you are writing to, or even when you decide to correspond with someone from abroad (especially if you are not using an agency). Many sites will share the names of the existing scammers, finding information about your lady's home country can also give you helpful insights, etc. Knowledge is power, and our agency is always ready to provide you with it.

As a curious experiment, he decided to write to her for some time and see the outcome - after the third letter he became the man of her life, after the seventh he was asked for money, and after he stopped writing to her, he received an exact copy of her first letter… but under a different name!
All this said, it doesn't mean you should get suspicious when your Russian bride is open about expressing her emotions. But we do suggest exercising some common sense and not basing any decisions on your emotional attachment alone.
Another sure way for scammers to easily fool you for a long time is to avoid communication THROUGH DIFFERENT MEDIA. It is easy to conceal information through an email address, which can not be tracked or checked.
Long-distance calls are expensive, but are a good measure to keep in touch from time to time. It is a great sign of a woman's genuine intentions if she shares her home as well as cell phone number with you - a good proof that she is not hiding who she really is. More often than not, scammers will give a cell phone number only, as it is something that is hard to track and easy to replace. We also recommend that you pay attention to her snail mail address - most scammers will use P.O. box addresses, instead of actual street/house information.
Naturally, common sense says that you can not expect a lady to share all of her contact information with someone she does not know. Even with most serious intentions, it might take time for her to be certain of your interest and intentions as well before she gives you her full contact information. The pictures of beautiful women commonly used by scammers are easily downloaded from the Internet, but will most likely have little variety in setting, style, etc. They will normally look like studio photos (most scammers are "models in the past"), and will not have anyone except "the lady" in them. Having your lady refuse (or make excuses) to send you photographs with family and friends is a great guarantee that she is a scammer. Most photo studios and internet cafes allow to scan and mail information (or will do it for inexperienced users) with ease.
But even if you discard every piece of advice mentioned above, there is still one main rule to remember - NEVER SEND ANY MONEY TO SOMEONE YOU HAVE NOT MET IN PERSON. Just because you are using a trusted service, it doesn't mean that you can be sure the real person gets the money. For example, many Western Union agents are bribed and share the profits of transfers, received by scammers: a person with a completely different name can receive the money, and the Western Union agent will simply overlook the incoherency in the documents for a commission.
We strongly encourage you to conduct your own investigation and research when you have any doubts about the person you are writing to, or even when you decide to correspond with someone from abroad (especially if you are not using an agency). Many sites will share the names of the existing scammers, finding information about your lady's home country can also give you helpful insights, etc. Knowledge is power, and our agency is always ready to provide you with it.
